Super schöne Lage, toller freundlicher Service, das Zelt super ausgestattet. Wir waren bei unserem Besuch die einzigen Gäste (off Season). Trotzdem wurde z.b. im Restaurant alles sehr schön vorbereitet und vor allem ein tolles Essen zubereitet. Die Lodge bietet wohl auch einiges mehr an als Essen und Übernachtung. Leider (und das ist das einzige negative) hatte der Manager nicht wirklich Lust uns etwas anzubieten und gab uns auch zu keiner Zeit das Gefühl willkommen zu sein. Das wurde aber durch die tollen Mitarbeiter mehr als kompensiert...

Une localisation en bord de cette lagune réserve ornithologique qui permet d’observer les oiseaux depuis la piscine et les chambres. Un personnel aux petits soins, efficace et gentil. Des petits déjeuners excellents et des repas qui le sont tout autant. Ne vous privez pas du plaisir de cet endroit.

I wish to follow up on the response from management, which state some blatant untruths. First, the tents measure about 1 x 18 feet., except the so-called honeymoon tent. We had a queen size bed and twin beds set together, with barely enough room to move around. It's tru that it there are eco aspects like electrical outlets that are purely decorative and plastic water bottles not often replaced. Other eco issues are not mentioned because there wasn't space. Air con, while appreciated, isn't eco, but at the end of the day, it was clear it was just meant to be a tourist draw. The all-night events are from the hotel 100 feet from the tent. That is indisputable. It's true there were other "community events" of thumping party music from the pavilion across the lake, but that was during the day. Yes, the karaoke started at 3am - outdoors- and ended at 4am. I was there, sweetie, you weren't. We wanted so much to enjoy this property, why else pay the money? Why would we leave a negative review that wasn't honest? We stayed at four other properties in Sri Lanka, all superb, two for a lot less money, and they got 5 star reviews from us. I would add that the attitude in the response should indicate to prospective guests all they need to know about how this property is managed.

We loved our two night stay at Flameback! The lodge was so beautiful and peaceful, and waking up to sound of birds was a real treat. We enjoyed two safari trips with Chami (Uda Walawe and Yala), and also a well informed bird watching tour around the premises - Chami was attentive and knowledgeable and successfully sought out two leopards for us at Yala! Ishan, the manager, and the rest of the staff were also very friendly and kind, and made Diwali extra special for us this year (see the stunning flower arrangement pictured below). Food was also great 👌🏽. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough - we didn’t want to leave!

We stayed at Flameback during Awurudu. Mr. Jeewantha welcomed us at the reception and explained the hotel facilities and escorted us to our rooms. The hotel also had arranged us a complimentary foot massage at its spa. It was perfect and I got a another treatment as they were professionals. We were given two adjacent rooms overlooking the lake. The rooms are clean and well maintained. We met Mr. Waruna the manager in charge, and he arranged us a bird watching in the evening with Chaminda. We saw over 30 varieties of birds around the hotel. The food and the service is perfect and chef Sameera goes to each and every table and make sure that the food is up to the expectation. Next day morning the hotel had organised a Awurudu celebration followed by traditional games. The hotel had organised sarongs for all the guests to attend the Awurudu celebration. We had a great time there and will definitely visit again.

This was a lovely stay of three nights. The accommodation is in well fitted tents that go beyond “glamping”. There is a lovely swimming pool looking out on the lake. With arras to relax either in the sun or the shade. Great restaurant with well prepared and presented food. Staff were v helpful and polite. Special thanks to Sampat the assistant manager

Mooi gelegen aan een meer tussen de bomen ligt dit resort. Het resort beschikt over een klein aantal tenten (je kunt het beter kleine bungalows noemen). Naast een zeer sfeervol restaurant is er ook een heerlijk zwembad met ligstoelen. Helaas waren wij de enige gasten, maar de service heeft daar niet onder geleden. De medewerkers waren meer dan vriendelijk en spraken goed Engels. Zo heeft de kok ons zijn keuken laten zien. Heel professioneel van opzet. En dat zag je terug in de heerlijke gerechten die hij bereidde. Zowel bij het ontbijt als het diner. De tent was mooi ingericht. Een ruim bed, een lekkere douche en een zitje zowel binnen als buiten. En buiten was het een komen en gaan van vogels en andere dieren. Ook een ochtend vogel tour op het terrein gemaakt. Hoeveel verschillende vogels je dan kunt zien. In een woord geweldig. En de huisbioloog gaf daarbij een goede uitleg en spotte heel veel vogels. We zijn hier twee dagen gebleven. En dat waren twee heerlijke dagen.

This is a great place. Tents are spacious, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and tasteful decorated. Enjoyed the food, the restaurant/bar is a nice space to relax as is the pool. Used the spa also which was very pleasant. We went on a safari and were lucky enough to see a leopard, we also went fishing on the lake early morning before breakfast which was a lot of fu. All the staff were very friendly and vey helpful and couldn’t do enough to make are visit as special as possible. We enjoyed chatting with manager over dinner, the whole place is very well run. They were sensitive to the needs of my pregnant partner and also dietary requirements. This is a great place.

Stayed for 2 nights to experience something different from the traditional hotel room. Booked 2 tents including the honeymoon suite. Both tent rooms were tastefully furnished and well appointed with a very comfortable bed. The food was tasty and well presented, off the menu requests were catered without any hesitation. The location is convenient with beautiful views of the Weerawila lake and the distant mountains. It would have been ideal if the property was a little more away from the road as the room I stayed in does get affected by vehicle noise at times. The staff is supper friendly and very service oriented with a very positive attitude. My wife tried the spa with a full body massage and was happy with the experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this unique luxury 'glamping' resort. It really is a birdwatchers paradise (would recommend the bird watching tour) and is well worth the drive to and from Yala. We were offered a complementary foot massage on arrival which was much appreciated after a heavy few days of walking! The staff couldn't do enough to help us and really did go out of their way to ensure we had an excellent stay. When we had a sudden downpour one of the team very quickly ran over with an umbrella to escort me back to my lodge to save me getting soaked. The accommodation was better than we could have imagined. We knew we would be staying in effectively a tent so was pleasantly surprised to realise it had an aircon unit! I loved how the room was furnished and it had all of the 'mod-con's' needed. The food was also amazing - as good as any we've had in any fine dining establishment so hats off to the chef, who was also working on his own most of the time. I was also surprised with a home-made birthday cake after dinner one evening which was a lovely touch. Thank you to everyone who made our stay special. Emma & Tom

Just loved staying here. We received a warm welcome the manager was excellent extremely helpful in every way. The lodge was fantastic overlooking the lagoon. Many thanks to the chef - the evening meals were outstanding. We loved the complimentary bird "safari" walk. Would definitely stay again. Thanks to all the staff.

Hi It was nice and warm wellcome.staff was very nice and they looked after us during the period we stayed there.food was exquisite we had a great experience at boat dinner. They offered us free foot massage when we entered the venue. Thank you for everything

We stayed here 3 nights. There are positive points here, but the negative aspects probably won’t be unique to us. The property is owned by the same owners as the Peacock Beach Hotel. The feeling is very much “set it and forget it”, using the “eco” as more gimmick than ethos to lure in tourist dollars (plenty here that is not “eco”). The positives: set on a stunning lake, looking out across the water to the mountains in the distance, the sounds of the birds and the wind in the trees is sublime. The pool is great. The tents are nice, with some issues. People have mentioned noise from the road but we didn’t find it objectionable. Most of the staff is charming, kind and concerned about the experience. We did 2 safaris, organised with Flamingo, both excellent. The Sri Lankan curry is fantastic, but the breakfast is forgettable, many other menu options unavailable. Overall the property feels a bit neglected. The tent is quite small (queen beds not king), cramped and over stuffed with furniture. The electrical outlets on pillars don’t function. One design flaw is the air con box, much too big for the space, is set right next to the bed with bright operating lights, it’s nearly impossible to sleep comfortably with it on or off. The floor fan doesn’t combat the humidity. Housekeeping was uneven and incomplete. There are plumbing and other sanitary issues. An item of value disappeared from our room. The massage was inappropriate in several ways, but one is not allowed to go into detail here. An adjacent brand name hotel creates noise long into the night. We were informed by a formal card that there would be a “community event” that would impact our sleep. The Hilton event in question was loud partying and karaoke until 4am. The permanent nature of the card indicates that this a regular occurrence. I asked how often this happened was told “once a year”, but the name on the card was that of the previous manager who left ages ago, probably after reading the writing on the wall. Insult to injury was the work that began at 6am with staff shovelling gravel into a wheelbarrow outside the tent right at our heads. All in all poor value for the money. Sadly, we left feeling exhausted, but we sympathize with the kind staff, as they really are making do with a problematic situation mostly beyond their control.

The food is hit or miss: Sri Lankan curry is fantastic, but the breakfast is forgettable, many other menu options unavailable. The pork chop is mostly bone. Overall the property feels a bit neglected. The tent is quite small (queen beds not king), cramped and over stuffed with furniture. The electrical outlets on pillars don’t function. There were plumbing issues. Outside are two worn out bean bags, saturated with monkey urine, putting off a nasty odor. The deck had puddles of monkey urine which no one saw fit to mop up. One design flaw is the air con box, much too big for the space, is set right next to the bed with bright operating lights, it’s nearly impossible to sleep comfortably with it on or off. The floor fan doesn’t combat the humidity. Housekeeping was uneven and incomplete. My sports watch was taken from the tent during a time when there were no other guests on site. The massages were mostly good, but someone needs to educate the young man on cultural norms and appropriate conduct. It’s not appropriate to order a female client to undress and then stand and watch while she does, nor to touch a woman’s groin or other private areas. It would be best to provide more than a small towel for her to cover herself during the service, and to leave the room afterward so she can dress in private. The biggest negative is the indiscriminate development on the lake that impacts the experience. Party music from properties across the lake reverbs across the water. The Hilton, set cheek-by-jowl with Flameback since 2020 is a real problem (I suspect the glowing reviews were pre-Hilton). Owned by a local tea plantation mogul under the Hilton brand, the hotel is designed so the reception/restaurant/party pavilion is less than 100 feet from your tent.
