Is Weizhou Island worth visiting in winter?

Here's the answer first: definitely yes! Compared to Beihai city, Weizhou Island is definitely much more fun. But one thing to remind everyone is that ferry tickets may be suspended due to weather conditions, so don’t schedule your time too tightly. We encountered a suspension in the morning due to strong winds and had to switch to the afternoon ferry, which shortened our sightseeing time. We only stayed on the island for one full day plus one evening, so we could only choose some spots to visit, not the entire island. We mainly went to Nanwan and the west line. The biggest advantage of going to Weizhou Island in winter is that accommodation is very cheap. You can get a decent place for just over 100 yuan. We stayed near Dishui Danping, which we don’t recommend as much. We recommend Shiluokou more because Dishui Danping’s scenery is relatively simple, not as spectacular as the cliffs at Shiluokou. The sunset is better there, and it’s also more convenient to get to Nanwan. The dining places are mainly near the pier in Nanwan, which is also good for taking photos. We had both of our main meals on the island here. One restaurant is called Taikeke Fusion Restaurant, and the other is the adjacent Huale Restaurant. Both are safe choices; just order the set meals. As for attractions: Crocodile Mountain Park is a must-visit. The main reason for the island entrance ticket is this park. The glass sea is very beautiful. It’s recommended to go in the morning and finish before the midday sun gets too strong. The dusk cliff at Shiluokou is a must-see. Besides being great for photos, it’s a natural wonder and probably the most iconic feature of Weizhou Island. Navigate to Lower Shiluokou, then walk a good distance on the reef rocks inside. The path is not easy, so be careful. Many photographers offer to take pictures, but we just took our own and it was about the same. Watching the sunset here is also very beautiful. The spring and summer cliff garden recommended online charges an entrance fee per person. We didn’t think it was worth it, so we skipped it and went straight to Island Coffee. This café is small, but the iconic yellow house and yellow umbrella are very photogenic. We were tired, so we just ordered a cup of coffee, took some photos, and looked at the blue bridge in the distance. Watching the sunset here should also be nice. Next, navigate to Weiyi Seaside Cabin to see the seaside swing in photo 13. We picked up some shells and took photos, then headed back. A tip for everyone: transportation on the island basically relies on renting vehicles. We rented a small electric scooter for 40 yuan a day. It gets very cold after dark in winter, and the village roads are pitch black, so we recommend not returning too late. Please stay safe!
