The go-to place in everyone's Moments | White Sand Lake Free Travel Guide

Throughout my trip in Xinjiang, White Sand Lake was one of my favorite spots. Despite the tight schedule, I actually sat by the lake for an entire day. 🚉Travel Tips: 1. Check the weather in advance: White Sand Lake is a place that's highly dependent on the weather. When the weather is good, with blue skies, white clouds, and the blue lake against the snow-capped mountains, it's simply picturesque. But if it's overcast or raining, it's just dull and not much to see. So be sure to check the weather before you go. 2. Be sure to get your border pass done the day before. Although it's relatively easy to handle, getting it on the same day will still take time to queue up. 3. Choosing your visit location: White Sand Lake has a south shore and a north shore. The south shore has two viewing platforms where you can walk to the water's edge to take photos (most tour buses go here), the advantage being that you can get up close to the lake view and ride yaks for photos, but it's very crowded by the lake and a bit congested for photos. Note: There is an entrance fee for the south viewing platform, 30 yuan per person. The advantage of the north shore is that it overlooks the entire lake, but you can't walk to the lake's edge. Personally, I feel the north shore is more photogenic because it's actually an undeveloped area and doesn't cost anything to visit. How to get to the north shore: Drive along the road signs, continue past the Geiz checkpoint, and when you see the sign for turning right to Mujixiang, keep driving in. The checkpoint will ask where you're going, show your border pass and tell the police uncle you're heading to the north shore of White Sand Lake. 📷Photo Spots: Spot one: Can only be seen from the direction of returning from Taxkorgan to Kashgar. Here you can take photos with the snow mountain, lake, and signboard all in one frame, which is the most popular spot on the internet. But please note, in principle, you cannot stop and get out of the car to take photos here, you can only shoot from the passenger side. Spot two: Can be seen when you're almost at White Sand Lake on the way from Kashgar to Taxkorgan. Here you can capture the sand, lake, and signboard all in one frame. Similarly, you cannot stop to take photos here, if you miss it you'll have to turn the car around. The scenery is beautiful, but safety first! 📝Tips: 1. The wind and sand by the lake are very strong, and it's also very sunny. 2. Remember to take sun protection measures. 3. It's recommended to shoot from 11 am to around 3 pm for the best lighting, as the White Sand Mountain will be backlit after the afternoon. 4. In the high-altitude area, don't engage in strenuous activities, and it's a good idea to prepare some items to prevent altitude sickness just in case.
