Shanxi Changzi Qianwanhu Tangwang Temple

Qianwanhu Tangwang Temple covers an area of approximately 1,045 square meters and is an ancient architectural site from the Yuan Dynasty. The temple faces south and currently has a main hall and side halls. The exact date of construction is unknown; the main hall is a Yuan Dynasty relic, while the side halls were built during the Qing Dynasty. Along the central axis is the main hall, flanked by east and west side halls and east and west auxiliary halls. The main hall sits on a brick and stone platform, with three bays in width and six purlins in depth, featuring a single-eave gable roof with barrel and flat tiles, covering about 90 square meters. The front eaves' column capitals have dougong brackets with five layers and double tips, with heavy purlins and diagonal brackets. On the inner wall of the east gable of the main hall, parts of Yuan Dynasty murals depicting figures wearing fur hats, leather boots, arrow sleeves, and ochre half-length robes have been exposed. This is the first discovery of Yuan Dynasty temple murals in Changzi County. The main hall of Qianwanhu Tangwang Temple is well preserved, with its beam frame, dougong brackets, and other large wooden components mostly original, exhibiting typical features of Yuan Dynasty architecture in southeastern Shanxi, holding significant historical value. It is a nationally protected key cultural relic.
