Built during the reign of the Republic of Venice in the 17th century, the Upper Town is situated on the top of the northern Hill surrounded by tall and thick ancient city walls. As the historical center of Bergamo, many monuments are well preserved to this day, including the famous Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and appella Colleoni. Nowadays, the city has basically been fully commercialized. During the day, it is a tourist attraction and a big park for people to walk. At night, many restaurants with unique northern Italian flavor and Pubs with antique interior decoration fashion are places of special leisure for local people.
