Bosten Lake, which means "oasis" in Uygur, is located in Bohu County, southeast of Yanqi Basin, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. It is the largest inland freshwater huff and puff Lake in China. The "offshore" and "Dunhapu" in "Han Shu Biography of Western Regions" refer to the lake. Bosten Lake lies between 86 & 176; 40'. 87 & 176; 25', 41 & 176; 56'. 42 & 176; 14', 55 km east-west, 25 km north-south, and more than 800 square kilometers water area (2014). The lake is 1048 meters above sea level, with an average depth of 9 meters and the deepest depth of 17 meters. Deep in the hinterland of Eurasia, the lake area is characterized by abundant sunshine, abundant heat and scarce rainfall, which is a typical temperate continental climate. Bosten Lake belongs to the inter-mountain subsidence lake. The main source of recharge is the Kaidu River, and at the same time, it is the source of the Kongque River. Bosten Lake can be divided into two parts: the Great Lakes and the Small Lakes. The area of the Great Lakes is nearly 1000 square kilometers, while the area of the Small Lakes is only over 100 square kilometers. Sui Shu "recorded that the lake has "fish, salt, Pu, reed benefits". Around the lake area, there are plentiful reeds, which are important production bases of reeds in China. In addition, Bosten Lake abounds in all kinds of freshwater fish and is the largest fishery production base in Xinjiang. In 2002, Bosten Lake was named as a national key scenic spot, which belongs to natural lake waters scenic natural scenic spot, involving Bohu, Yanqi, Heshuo and Korla three counties and one city. In May 2014, the Bosten Lake Scenic Area was rated as the national 5A tourist attraction, becoming the Eighth National 5A tourist attraction in Xinjiang.
