The National Hero Monument of Malaysia is located opposite Lake Park. It was built in 1966 to commemorate the martyrs who died for their country. The bronze statue of the Seven Warriors, 15.54 meters high, is one of the largest single sculptures in the world. It was designed by Wilton, a famous American sculptor, to commemorate the heroic martyrs who devoted themselves to defending the country against the riots in 1950. The monument, about 15.53 metres high, depicts the statues of seven soldiers, symbolizing the qualities of seven leaders. The inscription "1914-1918, 1939-1945, 1948-1960" and the list of the dead were inscribed on the tablet. 1914-1918, 1939-1945 were the first and second world wars respectively, and 1948-1960 were the civil wars in Malaysia, which were called "extraordinary period" in Malaysian history.
