Later we came to Sibelius Square, surrounded by neoclassical buildings, marble sculptures and fountains, which are the landmarks of Madrid. Sibelius, the fertility goddess of Frigia, was sitting in a chariot pulled by two lions, watching the busy streets and the traffic from south to north. Fountain was built during Carlos III and designed by Ventura Rodrigues from 1777 to 1782. The goddess and the chariot are the works of Francisco Gutierrez, and the lion is the works of Robert Michel. At the southeast corner of Sibelis Square is the Palace of Communications, the old headquarters of the Spanish General Administration of Posts and Telecommunications. Since 2007, Madrid Mayor's Office has been stationed. The southwestern corner of the square is the Bank of Spain, opposite the General Staff of the Spanish Army. The northeast corner of the square is the Linares Palace. Every building has its own characteristics.
