Tiemenguan, located 8 kilometers north of Korla City, capital of Bayinguoling Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, strangles the exit of the steep canyon in the upper reaches of the Kongquehe River. It was once the most dangerous transportation hub in the northern and southern Xinjiang, and the throat of the ancient Silk Road. Jin Dynasty set up customs here, because it is dangerous, so it is called Tiemen Gate listed as one of the 26 ancient Chinese customs. More than two thousand years ago, along the Peacock River, the Silk Road entered a 30-kilometer-long canyon. The Canyon is deep and winding, and its banks are like knives and axes. According to textual research, since the Jin Dynasty, there has been a pass here, because of its dangerous location, so the name of Tiemen Pass. It is a natural danger for Yanqi Basin to enter the Tarim Basin, and has been a must for military strategists since ancient times. Now Tieguan Gorge has built a large reservoir on the dam, and a section of the ancient Silk road, once extremely dangerous, has been submerged in ten thousand hectares of blue water.
