I had a January 2024 conference at Stellenbosch Business School, and our Association gave a great rate at this hotel (only 1230 ZAR, including all taxes). At the current USD exchange rate, that was only $65. Because I didn't want to spend a lot of time commuting back and forth for those conference days, and because our conference also paid for the shuttle bus between the conference hotels and the conference venue, I decided to book this hotel for two nights. There are only a handful of written/detailed reviews in the past 4 years here on TA, and so I want to add mine here. (A note to Bonvoy members: Do note that you only get one ENC per 2 nights stayed. If in doubt, feel free to google ”Protea and ENC”...) Here are the pros: (1) The price is indeed cheap. (2) The staff is very kind. (3) The breakfast is good enough, with a few different kinds of sausages, a few different kinds of cereal, a few different kinds of bread/pastry, a few different kinds of fruit; and a couple different kinds of juice. (Bonvoy members: Platinum and above gets you free breakfast buffet.) (4) The on-site restaurant's 'a la carte' is OK enough if you're hungry, but I wouldn't have two dinners in a row there. The menu is not extensive, and also my pasta was a bit overcooked. (5) The room does have a small safe. Here are the cons: (1) Half of the hotel's rooms are just 15m from the highway. On a Sunday night, you're gonna hear a lot of road noise. It was the kind of noise that my earplugs couldn't block very well. If you scroll through the pictures here on TA, you'll see some pictures of that traffic. Those pictures are basically taken *from the room's window*. The cars are really that close! So if you are a light sleeper, and you care about sleep, this hotel is basically not for you. (2) Exactly half of the rooms are on the ground floor... meaning that just about any hoodlum could readily break the glass window of your room and enter if they wanted to. If that thought gives you anxiety, then I'd think twice before booking this hotel. (3) In the evening and late night (after ~9pm), I couldn't reach any front desk staff via the room's phone. (4) In the pictures, it looks like the room is carpeted. I don't think most of the room's are carpeted; my room #145 had a wood laminate floor, and it was pretty filthy. I mean, housekeeping doesn't appear to mop the floors very well, if at all. There are no slippers provided, so on Night #2, I put one of the bathroom towels on the floor and waddled/shimmied around on top of the towel to keep my feet clean. (5) I have Titanium Marriott status, and on Tuesday morning, they wouldn't grant me any kind of late check-out. I had to check out by 11am. They told me that there would be a 300 ZAR penalty per hour, if I checked out after that. (6) There's really nothing within walking distance; go ahead and take a look at the neighborhood in Google Maps, there's nothing to do or see if you have no car. (7) There are
Beautiful property and staff who made our stay wonderful over four nights. The setting is beautiful, the staff are wonderful and the pool is the warmest I’ve ever been in - which our seven year old daughter wouldn’t leave! The premier room was perfect and large to include our daughter and whenever we needed anything, staff were friendly and responsive to help. Trynn is lovely and the a la carte breakfast was a welcome change from breakfast buffets too. Small details could change - the pool area offers a very formal fine dining lunch menu rather than snacks (we had to ask repeatedly before someone agreed we could have a sandwich rather than a veal escalope for example!) and the pool area was often not staffed or had staff who don’t offer you a drink or get you a sub bed unless you ask. But these are minor details and didn’t detract from our stay at all.
This is the 2nd time we’ve stayed here And I can honestly say it was better than the first time if that is possible. The staff are friendly and so accommodating. The breakfast is amazing and the Morii restaurant is a taste experience, well worth a visit. As a wheelchair user, the accessibility is perfect, our room did not look in least bit “ disabled’ yet it accommodated my needs. The guest experience manager, Mkho, organised a shower chair for me that made my husband Adam’s caring role much easier and more comfortable for me. Can’t wait to come back.
A few years ago, we just loved this little gem of a place, shall I say once upon a time! On arrival you keep on buzzing the gate and no response. Happened twice. Eventually you make use of your hooter to get the attention of reception. Please do not dare ask them why they don’t open the gate, you get told “you did not ring the bell”! At reception a lady came begging for a warmer blanket for her little one, the more she asked for one, the more the reception lady asked her did she not get a blanket? Quite embarrassing. The Wild Fig restaurant was very enjoyable. The Hotel room was beautiful. Sadly it had a terrible bad toilet spray/mouldy bathroom smell, so overwhelming and unbearable that one could not bare the smell for longer than a few seconds. It did not help much as the room was standing closed with no ventilation. One can only imagine how long it’s been like this. After a few minutes more, we decided to leave and cut this bad experience short, and find an alternative place to stay. On reporting our unsatisfactory experience to management the next day, it became even worse! After management had enough time to check on all the facts and call me back, the reception manager did not do so. Once again I had to telephone the reception manager, who in turn had this unacceptable tone of arrogance in her voice. After explaining to her how to check on all the facts, it was evident her lack of experience in this regard. I asked her for the Hotel manager at 4:20pm in the afternoon, I was told he had already left. After demanding to speak to the hotel manager, I eventually got a call from him this morning. Obviously he only heard his reception managers version, and already made up his mind how he was going to deal with this. I explained everything over again and asked him to please check all the facts properly before addressing the issue further. He said he would, but don’t hold your breath. My recommendation: Do not book here, as they do not live up to the standard this prestigious hotel once had!
Upgraded to a Loft suite. Excellent (once the air conditioner unit was explained). Staff great. Housekeeping a bit too eager. On site restaurant Liberty's seems slow and disorganized, even for South Africa and especially for a Hilton's. Free shuttle to V&A Waterfront every two hours. Walking distance to the Old Biscuit Mill (a Saturday morning must-do). Regular and reliable taxi service around Cape Town at reasonable rates, for drop off and pickup. Airport shuttle. Neighborhood was very safe Don't pre-book tours before you get here; Yasir and his team will take good care of you.
Perfect location! Table Mountain and sea views plus sunsets looked so dreamy. The views were refreshing. The only thing I was disappointed with was the inefficiency. They took too long to let us into our room, TV wasn’t working and some shelves in the closet were broken and was placed perfectly as of it was ok, only when I touched it fell of. It could have hurt me.

很好
訪訪客I stayed at Urban Hive for a month, and it felt like a home away from home. The staff is super friendly, nice and accommodating, and ensures everything to make the guests comfortable. It’s centrally located on Long Street, in a beautiful heritage building, and has many hangout places like bar, balcony, lounge. Close to many touristic places and especially to explore the nightlife of Cape Town. The rooms, bathrooms, kitchen are all well maintained and super clean. All in all a perfect experience and will definitely stay there whenever I visit again.
訪訪客Having travelled extensively and stayed in numerous hotels worldwide, I can confidently state that my recent experience was the worst ever. Despite seeing several negative reviews about their service, I thought they were just occasional lapses. However, I soon discovered that the hotel had a persistent service problem. I had a problem with my reservation and spent two days trying to resolve it, but no one cared. To make matters worse, I was charged ten times the amount I had originally paid for the same room (i.e., $300 instead of $30) without any reasonable explanation. When I questioned this, the staff merely shrugged it off, citing fluctuating prices as the reason. The lady in charge of reservations was extremely rude and disrespectful throughout the ordeal. In addition to the issues with my reservation and the exorbitant charges, the air conditioner was not working properly and made a lot of noise. Furthermore, the fridge in my room made a huge noise, which disturbed my sleep at 2 am (I recorded a video as proof). Moreover, the noise levels in the dormitory were unacceptable all the night! making it impossible to get a good night's sleep. In short, I urge anyone considering staying at this hotel to think twice and look for other options.
