Very clean rooms. Good mix of Japanese/western culture. We enjoyed ourselves as we ha d Avery relaxing experience. Staff were very nice and the food was amazing (traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner). We loved our private onesen and would definitely recommend. The only disappointing aspect of our stay was that we were next to the utility room and it was quite noisy, especially at night. Otherwise, we would recommend. Just make sure you’re not next to the utility room!
This hotel is a historic property set in an iconic setting. We stayed in the Forest Section which features large, comfortable rooms that were a little dark, the bathroom lighting could be improved. Here is my issue. We arrived around 1:15 and we’re told that we could check in at 3:00. We had lunch in their cafe ( 50$) and asked again about an hour later if we could have early access. The very polite desk clerk replied “ Yes, for $70 dollars “. Astounded , I countered that we were departing early 2 days later, and he reduced the amount to $35. Now here is where communication becomes an issue: I continued the “are you kidding me?” and he kept bowing. I thought the issue was settled. That night and the next we ate at their lovely restaurants, French and the Cascade. Food and service was superb. With wine we spent about $900. Check out was early, and my husband didn’t really examine the bill. When we were back in our free early access room in Tokyo I noticed the $35 charge. I contacted the hotel’s customer service and they confirmed the charge. So, what about customer hospitality? I have NEVER been charged an early access fee for an hour. They have been times when we patiently waited for a room to be readied, and never demanded a rebate. It is all part of the guest/host agreement, I think this is probably a corporate decision by the Fujiya Group. Rethink your mission, guys, make guests feel wanted!
We stayed at the Hakone Hotel as part of a tour group. We had a spacious twin room with a view over the garden and part of Lake Ashi. The room spotlessly clean and was very comfortable. We had a comfortable chair and a comfortable 2 seater couch as well as comfortable beds. In the morning we had a beautiful clear view of Mt Fuji from the grounds of the hotel. We had a delicious included dinner at the hotel as well as a good buffet breakfast. There was a capsule coffee/tea maker in the room that I tried with Earl Grey Tea which was a bit strong for my taste.
訪訪客We got this very large suite that was in the CONDO complex. It is outside of the main building but there are walkways in the back that allow transverse with the key. That said, it was incredibly comfortable. The beds were plush and comfy. Spring bath was soothing. The suite was HUGE!! There was a large sitting area as well as a patio. The entire place never felt crowded even though people were always checking in. I did not see anyone the entire time while walking around except during mealtime and the dessert hour. We signed up for both dinner and breakfast because we weren’t too keen on looking for a restaurant. It was the best decision because the food was very fresh and varied (although focused on Japanese more). It was buffet style with an extra personalized item that you get to order. Dessert was generous and there was a small bar to mix one’s own drinks. Afterwards, there is a dessert-beer-coffee bar that was just wonderful. It was like a mixer. The onsen was nice. We ended up doing only the private onsen and it was available both times. We also had the bath in the suite. Everything felt super clean and immaculate. The hosts and reception personnel were nice and friendly throughout. Check-in and check-out was quick and seamless. It is about 5 minutes’ walk from the GORA train station. There are lots of bus in the main street downstairs.

訪訪客We stayed in this hotel with my wife in March, 2024. We were totally amazed by the room, the Onsen and the kindness of the staff! Everything is perfect in this peaceful place hidden between mountains where you can hear the river song from your room and the onsen, and where we rediscover the contact with nature. Thanks to the staff for their warm welcome and their kindness all along our stay! When we come back to Japan, we will surely come back to this amazing hotel!
訪訪客Great potential. Fifteen to twenty years ago this would have been a great hotel. However now the rooms and common areas are very tired. This is even more important because this is such a weather dependent hotel. On a clear day with great visibilty and views of Mount Fuji you would overlook the imperfections. But on a dull and rainy day, which often happens here, you would be stuck in your room. These rooms are very small. The bathroom is quite simply depressing and may have looked good in 1970. Fortunately Japanese people are very quiet but the bedroom doors and plumbing are not. The beds are not very comfortable impacting on sleep quality, pillows are small and hard. So if the first person on your corridor is up at six o'clock we are all awake. There is no bar as such, we asked at reception where we could get some ice, to be told you have to buy if from the shop which was often closed. The redeeming factor was the food. The 'restaurant' was more like a works canteen but the staff there were lovely. The food selection was vast and we particularly liked the individual burners for Shabu Shabu. Great variety of Sushi, Tempura and quality meat and fish. The Onson is nice and cosy and if the weather is kind you can see Fuji. With a refurb this hotel could be substantially better.
