This small town, known as one of the world's most dangerous villages, is perpetually submerged by mountains, with its inhabitants living beneath the rocks. The entire village appears to be pressed underground by the mountains, with massive boulders visible overhead. The houses are uniquely carved into the rock face of a narrow canyon. From a distance, it's breathtaking; it feels as if the rock is pressing down on the houses, threatening to collapse at any moment. The residents live right beneath the rocks. Even on rainy days, they don't need umbrellas. Today, the town has far fewer wineries, but it remains famous for its delicious olives and almonds. However, the town is most famous for its unusual cave dwellings built directly beneath the massive rocks of a deep canyon. This canyon was naturally formed by a stream below, creating this incredible landscape. In prehistoric times, it was believed that cavemen (Neanderthals) lived in the caves of this village. In modern times, villagers have built their houses among the rocks to protect themselves from the summer heat and winter cold. All this history and beauty makes it one of the most popular towns for a road trip in Andalusia! Setenil de las Bodegas Street The main street of Setenil de las Bodegas, known as "Calle Cuevas del Sol" (Sun Cave), is built under a massive, overhanging rock. This beautiful, sun-drenched street is home to many cave restaurants, nestled between the enormous rock and a charming river. Grab a bite to eat (try the wild asparagus soup, a local specialty) and enjoy the stunning views. This town at the foot of the rock is a Spanish intangible cultural heritage site. The roads are so narrow that you can either drive up the hill, find a parking spot, and hike down, or simply go to the parking lot. It's about a half-hour drive from Ronda. If you have your own car, you can explore the town at your own pace, grab a bite to eat, have a glass of wine, and soak up the sun – very relaxing. Look up and you'll see massive rocks.
