Tagong Grassland is located in Tagong Town, Kangding City, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is a gem on the Western Sichuan Loop. "Tagong" means "a place favored by the Bodhisattva." The grassland is vast, with Yala Snow Mountain towering above, prayer flags fluttering, and a strong Tibetan cultural atmosphere, making it an excellent place to experience the highland pastoral song. **Best Season:** June to October. In summer (June to August), the grassland is lush green with blooming wildflowers; in autumn (September to October), the sky is high and clouds are light, with colorful scenery. Winter is cold, and spring is windy with less attractive views. **Transportation:** * **Self-driving:** Highly recommended. Depart from Chengdu, passing through Kangding and Zheduo Mountain, about 5-6 hours. The road conditions are good, but caution is needed when driving on the plateau. * **Public Transport:** Take a bus from Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station to Kangding, then transfer to a local vehicle to Tagong, which is somewhat inconvenient. **Core Experiences:** 1. **Tagong Monastery and Grassland Viewing:** First visit Tagong Monastery, known as the "Little Jokhang Temple," then enter the grassland. The best viewing spot is beside the Muya Golden Tower, where you can simultaneously see the Golden Tower, Yala Snow Mountain, and the grassland, especially stunning at sunset. 2. **Yala Snow Mountain Viewing:** Yala Snow Mountain can be seen from various points on the grassland. If time permits, drive to Rima Village or Yunrao Yala Viewing Platform for a close-up experience of the majestic snow mountain. 3. **Immersing in Tibetan Village Culture:** Stroll through Tagong Town, visit the Mani stone piles, and spin the prayer wheels. Respect local customs, try Tibetan cuisine (such as tsampa and butter tea), and have simple exchanges with friendly herders. **Notes:** * **Altitude Sickness:** At about 3,700 meters above sea level, move slowly, avoid washing hair or bathing on the first day, and prepare oxygen bottles and glucose. * **Weather and Clothing:** Large temperature differences between day and night; even in summer, bring a windbreaker or light down jacket. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats are essential. * **Environmental Protection and Respect:** Do not trample the grass or litter. Obtain permission before photographing people or religious ceremonies. Walk around Mani piles and prayer wheels clockwise. * **Itinerary Planning:** It is recommended to stay 1-2 days and combine the visit with Xinduqiao and Moxi Park.
