However, be sure to note the pair of golden shachihoko (mythical fish-like creatures) on the roof, a symbol of Nagoya, the guardian deities of the castle, and a testament to the power and status of the Tokugawa family! Currently, only the Honmaru Palace is open to the public. Shoes must be removed before entry. Free lockers are available. The magnificent gilded screens and murals, with their intricate and ornate carvings, truly resemble a golden palace from the Edo period! Nagoya Castle hosts a samurai procession that periodically appears to take photos with tourists. Performances are held on weekends; check the signboards for show times before entering! Next to the castle is the Kinshachiyokocho food street.
