You may have heard of Beihai Park with its huge lake and white stupa. It's a beautiful park but very busy with tourists and locals. When you buy your park ticket don't forget to visit the temples and rooms near the entrance. It's not obvious, but up up some stairs to the side you'll find a calm area with a handful of beautifully decorated buildings. We went during golden week and it was deserted, in contrast to the park. The first snowfall of winter in Beijing has just fallen. The Forbidden City is closed on Mondays, so where can you go to see the ancient buildings in the snow? I went to Beihai Tuan City at noon and enjoyed the joy of one yuan. Tuan City is small, I entered Beihai and took a picture of the White Pagoda, and there was enough time for a lunch break. You can take pictures of Chengguang Hall and the corner tower of the Forbidden City on Tuan City. TIPS: 1. The annual park ticket does not include Tuan City, but the ticket is only one yuan. 2. Don't take pictures in the direction that is not allowed after you go up to Tuan City. There is such a big sign~ Don't insist on taking pictures, being stopped by the staff, and then complaining online.

Tips: Several characteristics define the well-known parks in Beijing. First, parking is difficult, and second, the parks are often crowded, making it a challenge to ensure you've visited all the important sights. Therefore, here comes the guide for parking + boating + island visiting in Beihai Park! This is the itinerary I followed last week, and it's family-friendly, so you won't take any unnecessary detours! 🚏Parking: Search for 'Xibanqiao (Bus Station)' for a parking lot where you can still park even if it's full by leaving your keys with the staff. If you're worried, you can ask for their phone number. I found this tip in a guidebook, and when I returned from my visit, they had already moved my car to a regular parking spot. The parking fee is 8 yuan per hour, which is quite reasonable in the expensive Xicheng District. ☀Tour Route: After leaving the parking lot, cross the street and turn left to reach the East Gate, with the route map attached below. Route 1: After entering, you can go straight to the island. Heading north, you can visit well-known spots on the island: Qiongdao Chunyin, Yilan Hall, and Yuegu Lou, all of which are well worth a visit. Emperor Qianlong's aesthetic taste and interest in calligraphy and painting are evident. Route 2: Walk to the South Gate (a five-minute walk), enter the White Pagoda area from Yong'an Temple (buy a combined entrance ticket or a single ticket for 10 yuan). Yong'an Temple closes at 5:30 pm, so go early! (If it's closed, you can still get close to the White Pagoda by taking the small path next to it, but you'll miss Yong'an Temple, Falun Hall, Puan Hall, and other sights) 🚢Boating: Boats can be rented directly from the South Gate and Lingguang Hall pier, but there are no large cruise ships (those that you don't have to row yourself). For the large cruise ships, you have to leave the island and take them from the outer circle of Beihai Park. In conclusion, you can visit Qiong Island in an afternoon, but if you want to deeply explore the outer circle of Beihai Park and take photos, it will take a whole day!

Beihai Park, a quiet place in winter, avoiding the crowd, taking the lesser-known route, the Beihai Park in winter, although the wind is biting, but there are few people. Beihai Park in Beijing hosts the Yan Nan Xun Pavilion, located atop the artificial hill behind the Yilan Hall on Qionghua Island. The pavilion's name, Yan Nan Xun, is derived from the pre-Qin 'Song of the South Wind': 'The south wind's warmth, indeed, can soothe the discontent of my people. The time of the south wind, indeed, can increase the wealth of my people.' Situated at the highest point of the Yilan Hall architectural complex, the three-fold fan-shaped pavilion unfolds like an open fan, with flower windows on both sides and behind. In front of the pavilion is the fan's ribs and shaft, with the shaft also serving as the central axis of the structure. The scenery of the north shore of Beihai is fully visible from here. The designer, Emperor Qianlong, did not lack for places to enjoy the view from a high vantage point. However, what sets this spot apart is its suitability for quiet contemplation and introspection, a purposeful design by Emperor Qianlong himself.
