We chose the Old Church Farm for several reasons, its location is great, close to Bristol but also close to Cotswolds and Bath, all of which were on our to do list. The previous reviews were great and we felt very welcome although there are security cameras installed and so as soon as we arrived back our host was at our door, this was a little odd. Our room was very spacious but it felt a little tired or unloved, for example the lamp shade fraying, some faded upholstery, mould in the shower, carpet in the bathroom etc. There is a restuarant on site but only open Friday and Saturday nights, we were made to feel a little guilty that we didn't eat there although our host was very helpful in providing recommendations for dining options close by. Breakfast was extra, they had a good drinks menu but there was a corkage charge for byo drinks, all very strange. What was most disappointing was the state of the grounds. We selected this B&B due to the photos in the reviews, beautiful lawns and gardens. We were dreaming of the classic English summer experience, taking drinks on the beautiful lawn, enjoying the English summer and countryside. Sadly this was not the case, gardens and surrounds had not been maintained. Overall it has great potential but just needs some TLC to get it up to the standard of other B&Bs that we have enjoyed on this trip in other locations.

I booked a night at Old Church Farm, with dinner and breakfast, as a present for my daughter and her partner. They were both absolutely delighted with everything: the warm welcome, delicious beautifully cooked meals, the spotless spacious and very comfortable room, and the friendly service. They said that they felt very well looked after, and also loved learning about the history of the place and seeing the yew tree. Perfect!

Wonderful return visit here. Great welcome to this really interesting old house. Room spacious, comfortable and clean with interesting views over countryside. Choice of drinks excellent and food absolutely delicious (dinner and breakfast too!). Great hosts

Absolutely fantastic venue and wonderful host. Very responsive and helpful. The English breakfast - truly the best I’ve had (and I’ve had many!).

I am so happy I found this gem! I was looking for somewhere to stay outside Bristol as I wanted to explore the city but preferred staying somewhere quiet and relaxing rather than in the city hustle and bustle. I booked 3 nights in the Alveston suite and was greeted on my arrival by Chris who is the absolutely charming patron. I am a solo female traveller but his attention to detail made me feel comfortable right from the start. He took me into the drawing room where we completed the paperwork before he showed me where the snug and dining room are on the ground floor, and then took me to my suite. The room was lovely with fabulous South Gloucestershire countryside views through the stone mullioned windows. The super king size bed was so comfortable - I slept well every night! Chris also told me a bit about the building's history - it traces back to Medieval times when it was owned by King Harold prior to the Norman Conquest in 1066. Before Chris bought the property, it was owned by Rolls Royce PLC and it was where they hosted many dignitaries from around the world. Breakfast was cooked by Kate and was delicious - warm pastries, fruit and cereal; on two mornings I chose from ingredients for a Full English Breakfast, and on the other morning I had Eggs Benedict with yummy hollandaise sauce. To drink there was Orange juice and a chilled bottle of 'Old Church Farm' water. From all this you might think the place is a bit pretentious - it absolutely isn't and I felt so special. Next time I am in the West Country I would definitely love to book again. Thank you Chris and Kate for a lovely stay.

Many people have already written all the details in their reviews here - and they are right! Suffice to say, then, that we would love to return to this place of calm, luxury and history. Kate in the kitchen made food that made us smile each morning with a superb breakfast, and each dinner was so tasteful and included local meat and vegetables. Chris was our magnificent host doing everything to make us feel at home. Chris is a great host and very knowledgeable about the property. Room was large with comfortable bed. Nice bathroom / shower. Kate prepared first class food. Hotel is well situated to explore the Bristol / Bath area. Very highly recommended!

Super comfortable small country hotel. Our room was enormous with lovely views over the countryside. All very comfortable and high quality. Superb home cooked meals which were delicious and plentiful. Chris was a great host and we appreciated his suggestions about what to do during the day. Will certainly return

We were looking for a hotel which would give us somewhere to relax in comfortable luxurious surroundings whilst being ideal to explore this area of the country. The Old Church was perfect. Our room was large, well appointed, clean and very comfortable and this standard was maintained throughout the hotel. Breakfast had many options with local and home made produce and was excellent. Dinner gives a good choice from an imaginative menu and is not to be missed. This is a five bedroom small hotel and carries a premium but for us it was worth every penny. It’s enhanced by the owner Chris who establishes a calm relaxed air about the place and nothing is too much trouble.

Undoubtedly the buildings, the grounds and the rooms are splendid, steeped in history and in an admirable location. The atmosphere is undeniably calm and friendly yet unostentatiously sophisticated and welcoming. However, other private establishments do sometimes have these aspects too but none have the uniquely complementary qualities of Kate and Christopher. We were fortunate to meet Kate in one of her rare forays from the kitchen: her talented cooking skills in producing such beautiful fresh and constantly changing menus - we stayed two nights - are impressive in every single area and are probably equalled only by her skills on the lawnmower. Christopher is also wonderfully attuned to the needs of his guests, being both amusing and well-informed but also able to constantly anticipate requests through sheer experience and professionalism. They are both a real delight to talk to, with wide ranging interests and experiences. This review, as you may have gathered, is not quite conventional, to try to reflect the experience of staying at Old Church Farm, which is unique. Long may they thrive! PS we've already booked our next visit in room 7. We will not forget their kind patience as Christopher and Kate coped when we forgot the clocks had changed and were late for breakfast: on Mother's Day too!

We had the most fantastic weekend at the Old Church Farm. Warm welcoming hosts and outstanding food. The beds and pillows were so comfortable and we didn’t want to leave in the morning. Great value for money, we will definitely be back!

A small private hotel which is owner managed and where the guest comes first. The owner (Chris) went to every effort to make out stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms are glorious and the food just what we wanted (and great value too). There is no menu on the website because the menu changes every day. Choice of 2 starters, 3 mains and 2 puddings. All diets catered for but would suggest contacting the hotel in advance. Thank you for a great weekend.

Gosh, what a find, I almost didn't want to share this exquisite, homely and immaculate boutique B&B. More and better than a hotel, a perfectly heavenly find. Super king size bed in a glorious room. We will make a reason to come back soon. Full of history but warm and beautifully renovated. And Christopher was such a wonderful host, local restaurant recommendations, attentive but also unobtrusive. Breakfast was simply delicious. .....what a find!
