Hong Kong High-Speed Rail: Overview and Operating Hours
The Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link (known locally as the Hong Kong High Speed Rail) stretches 26 kilometers (about 16 miles). Departing from West Kowloon Station, it connects to cities across Mainland China 🚝, with its northern end linking to the Guangzhou–Shenzhen section and the wider national high-speed rail network.
Starting in 2020, the Hong Kong High Speed Rail was expected to run 17 long-distance trains a day plus multiple short-haul services, letting travelers reach 78 Mainland stations 📍 without changing trains. As cross-border travel has reopened, more services are being added to make it easier for travelers heading to the Mainland or entering Hong Kong.
From January 31, 2023, an extra 5,000 tickets per day are available in each direction (northbound and southbound), bringing the daily total to 30,000 tickets. At present, many routes and frequencies have been restored, making trips between the two places on the Hong Kong High Speed Rail even more convenient!

【1】Ticket Types 🎫
In general, Hong Kong High Speed Rail offers two ticket categories: Adult tickets (for travelers aged 18 and above, or taller than 1.5 meters) and Child tickets (for travelers under 18 and between 1.2 and 1.5 meters tall). In addition, for High Speed Rail services departing from Mainland China, Student tickets and Disabled Military Personnel tickets are also available.
【2】Ticket Prices 💲
High-speed rail fares in Hong Kong come in two types: “published fares” (the list price) and “selling fares” (the price you pay). The selling fare will never be higher than the published fare. Since tickets are priced in RMB (Chinese yuan), Hong Kong dollar amounts adjust with exchange rate movements, and the latest fares are announced on the first day of each month.
