Perfect spot for a getaway just over an hour out of Johannesburg - incredible grounds with prime game spotting i.e. lion, ellies, buffalo and tons more. Staff are wonderful and everything you need is on hand. Will absolutely visit again soon!

After a mere hour and 20 minutes from JHB, we arrived at the lovely African Hills Safari Lodge and Spa, being welcomed by two fully grown elephants being hand fed by guests outside the lunch area, next to the pool. Fascinating. The lunch buffet was extensive and delicious and booking into our room was easy and efficient. The rooms are small but more than adequate for our one night spoil. The game drive was very eventful and we saw most of the big five, except the rhino and leopard, but we got a lovely sighting of a black backed jackal as we headed back in the evening. Dinner was, again, a full spread buffet. We slept peacefully and awoke to a herd of female impala springing through the camp. Wonderful. Breakfast was calm and satisfying and then it was time to leave, back to the hustle and bustle of JHB city life. LOVELY GETAWAY.

The property's location is excellent, away from the busyness of the city; however, it frequently experiences power outages. During my stay of five days, there were no generator backups for three days. This caused a sense of unease as I had to spend the nights in complete darkness, occasionally hearing sounds from the surroundings. While the rest of the property was well-lit, my room remained pitch dark at night. Moreover, there was no power or hot water available even during nighttime. This issue started from the day I checked in and persisted throughout the following night. The staff didn't offer any solution except to wait for the power to be restored from the main grid. After multiple inquiries and escalations, I finally received power backup on the third night, which functioned well for three nights before encountering another outage on the night prior to my check-out. Additionally, the availability of Wi-Fi depended on whether the room had power or not.

The room was clean, comfortable bed,nice bathroom but there was flying insects all over our bed especially when the lights is on.breakfast was dry.The place was peaceful and very quiet.If you can make a bell on the gate because everytime when going in and out we have to call.

I loved my stay at African Hills. I was especially impressed by the bedroom with amenities better than some hotels in the CBD. The customer care was exceptional. And i loved the fact that some wildlife was visible roaming not far from the the room.
