Beginner Route | Hong Kong "Dragon's Back - Hok Tsui" Hiking Guide

The weather has been perfect for hiking lately, indoor workouts feel like such a waste~ Hiking enthusiasts wish they could go every week! 🚇 Transportation Guide · To the starting point: High-speed rail from Shenzhen Futian Station to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station MTR from Kowloon Station to Shau Kei Wan Station, Exit A2 Turn right and walk to the bus terminal, take New World First Bus No. 9 to To Tei Wan Station, get off and you’ll arrive at the Dragon’s Back entrance. Start your beautiful hike! ↔️ · Return trip: After hiking, take a minibus from the bus stop directly back to Shau Kei Wan Station, then return to Shenzhen the same way ⬅️ Note‼️ The minibus usually has seats available quickly. New World First Bus No. 9 is a double-decker bus, and when crowded you have to stand, which is tiring. The minibus is highly recommended. 🌎 Route Plan (about 10 km total, takes 4.5 hours) 1⃣ Dragon’s Back section (To Tei Wan → Shek O Peak → Big Wave Bay) · Start from the To Tei Wan trailhead, it takes about 30 minutes to reach the peak! The Dragon’s Back ridge undulates like a dragon’s spine, with stunning panoramic views of the South China Sea and Shek O Peninsula on both sides. · Difficulty: ★☆☆☆☆ Gentle slope, beginner-friendly 2⃣ Transition section (Dragon’s Back → Hok Tsui) · Hiking to Hok Tsui Road Station, you can choose to take the bus or hike. We chose to hike; there’s not much scenery, just an easy walk along a flat road. 3⃣ Hok Tsui Coastal Protection Area (must-visit scenic loop) · Walk about 3.5 km along Hok Tsui Road, the entire route is paved with cement and has little shade. · Key attractions: 🌊 Crab Hole: a natural arch formed by wave erosion ⚡ Thunder Sound Cave: a sea cave where the sound of waves echoes like thunder, an amazing experience 💡 Tips · Supplies: Only one convenience store along Hok Tsui, bring your own water and snacks! · Gear: Non-slip sports shoes, sun hat, power bank · Safety: Hok Tsui rocks are slippery, stay away from the water when waves are strong; check the weather in advance, return before sunset; beware of wild boars 📝 Hiking Impressions · This trail is really very beginner-friendly, with no difficulty at all. Walking 10 km is quite easy, perfect for beginners to try. · The coastline along Dragon’s Back is quite beautiful, some bays look a bit like islands in Korea 🏖️ Overall, the views are very nice. · A long stretch in the middle follows a mountain road, so be careful of traffic and exhaust fumes, which is a downside.
